Blackbird Technologies has settled patent infringement lawsuits on tow brake technology with all defendants.
Blackbird Technologies filed three lawsuits in May 2015 on United States Patent No. 6,557,948, relating to a braking apparatus for a towed vehicle. The cases were filed in the United States District Court for the District of Delaware against AP Products Inc. (15-cv-00396), Hopkins Manufacturing Corporation (15-cv-00397) and Roadmaster, Inc. (15-cv-00398). Blackbird Technologies has settled all three suits related to this patent.
“In only four months, Blackbird Technologies was able to resolve all three cases related to this patent,” said Wendy Verlander, President and CEO of Blackbird Technologies. “The inventor of this important technology, John Greaves, had tried for years to sell or license it. We are very pleased that we were able to achieve such a good result for him so quickly.”
”Resolving these suits in a relatively short time was good business for all involved,” added Chris Freeman, VP and Head of Litigation for Blackbird Technologies. “It reflects on the high quality of the patent, the value of Mr. Greaves’ invention, and the professionalism of the parties involved.”
Mr. Greaves commented, “My goal was to make a safer tow brake product. After I developed this technology I wanted others to get the benefit. But, the big companies didn’t want to license it and I couldn’t compete with them. Ultimately, I gave up until Blackbird came along. I am happy and feel vindicated to see revenue from all of my hard work on this technology.”
