Blackbird Technologies has resolved patent infringement lawsuits with Petco and Kurgo.

Blackbird Technologies filed 13 lawsuits in September 2014 on United States Patent No. 6,425,349, relating to a bicycle pet carrier, in the United States District Court for the District of Delaware. With the resolution of a lawsuit against Petco Animal Supplies, Inc. (14-cv-1161) and settlement with Motivation Design, LLC d/b/a Kurgo (14-cv-1159) concerning the Kurgo Skybox Bike Basket, Blackbird Technologies has ended all suits related to this patent.

In the last quarter of 2014, Blackbird Technologies settled the first of the pet carrier lawsuits with manufacturers Pet Gear (14-cv-01163), maker of the 3-in-1 Pet Carrier, and PetEgo (14-cv-01162), maker of the Pod iLove Pet Carrier. Cases filed against retailers of these products, PetSmart (14-cv-1165), Walmart (14-cv-1169), Target (14-cv-1167), Drs. Foster and Smith (14-cv-1158), Pet Supermarket (14-cv-1160), PetSense (14-cv-1164) and UnbeatableSale.com (14-cv-1168), were dismissed. In February 2015, Blackbird Technologies settled with Amazon (14-cv-01157) and resolved a case against Sears (14-cv-1166) concerning the Kurgo product.

“In less than nine months, Blackbird Technologies was able to resolve all 13 cases related to this patent,” said Wendy Verlander, President and CEO of Blackbird Technologies. “As a result, the inventors, Barbara Laskin and Agostinho Martins, have finally and quickly received compensation for their years of hard work on this invention.”
